In 1998 I woke from a dream about ‘Fatherlessness’ and how it was affecting the black community and families. As I began to study and research my ideas, I realized it wasn’t just the black community, but all of America being torn apart by the fatherlessness and its long lasting effects throughout our nation.
I began to write my first book, with no idea where it would lead my family or me, but as always I trusted there was a Divine Plan. By the time the book was finished, I was deeply involved in prison ministry and more research that was taking me to deeper, profound contemplation. In 1999 I started the ministry of Liberty Proclaimed Ministry (not to set people free, Jesus had already done that) but to share the news they were free, so the proclaiming (tell) came into the story. The writing continued and I completed the next book on relationships “Don’t Let Women Make You Sick,” about the healing of relationships.
After finishing the 2nd book, I realized so many needed help healing those damaged relationships and also a safe place that offered steady employment and long-term work. It was painful to watch so many people return to prison, because they returned to the same circumstances and same people, with no support, no work/jobs, and no chance for a second life. We started a small training program to assist low to moderate-income individuals to become business owners, using what skills and products they knew, and working to turn them into actual sources of income, such as in-home child care, elderly care, janitorial and lawn care.
A chance meeting with a student took LPM to the next step, when he told me about TIBH (The Institute for the Blind and Handicapped), and we contacted them. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to partner Liberty Proclaimed Ministry with TIBH – what a difference! With our partnership, we are helping those individuals that society had forgotten and thrown away, and building a successful business to share for future generations.
Stay tuned for our future adventures! We hope the next two big adventures will be:
1. Safe, affordable housing for these wonderful people that continue to turn their lives around.
2. Funding for small business ventures, and wherever The Spirit leads us.
